L Zafo was born in Brooklyn NYC, but after the events of 9/11 his father's car wash went out of business in a burning economy. So he and his family were forced to move away to London, Golders Green, thanks to a job offer his father received from a long distance friend. Times were hard for L Zafo as a teen, and although he was not based in a particularly bad area, his family were extremely poor, and his fathers gambling addiction did not help him sustain his family or even a proper job. Eventually L Zafo became associated with gangs in Golders Green to make money for himself and his family, mainly by selling drugs, and as he began to be embedded in this illegal lifestyle, he soon dropped out of high school. Now an alcoholic as well; his father was in and out of the house at all hours, and at the age of 18, his father died of a heart attack, leaving him the man of the house. Throughout these years L Zafo was always writing rhymes and producing music, and of course eventually made a breakthrough with his debut album Amnesia. Golders Green explores the struggles he faced growing up as a teen drug dealer in North-West London, in an area that at first glance appears so innocent.
